Absentee Voting

Listen up, fellow Americans...If anyone tells you that they aren't going to vote next week because "it takes too much time", then you might want to let them know the steps that you have to go through to vote by absentee ballot (at least for Elmore County, Alabama).

1) Go on the internet, find the Absentee Request Form for your county
2) Print Absentee Request Form
3) Fill out Absentee Request Form
4) Mail Absentee Request Form (don't forget international postal rates)
5) Wait for Absentee ballot to arrive by mail
6) Vote
7) seal ballot inside secrecy envelope
8) Fill out and sign absentee voter affidavit
9) Have affidavit signed by two witnesses
10) Seal secrecy envelope inside affidavit envelope
11) Make a copy of valid identification
12) Put affidavit envelope and copy of identification into mailing envelope
13) Seal mailing envelope
14a) (optional) Have envelope delivered to U.S. Embassy for mailing
14b) (optional) Discover that Embassy will only accept ballots from States who pre-pay for the postage (not Alabama, apparently)
15) Take envelope to FedEx, who will mail for free, regardless of pre-paid postage
16) Make sure the ballot arrives before Nov 7

Our votes are going to count. What about yours?
