The Worst Questions to be Asked in an Interview

A few months ago, Faith Academy's speech teacher asked if I would like to conduct some mock interviews for some of her students. I had been wondering about what Faith did to prepare its students for the business world. It was a great fit, so I agreed.

In preparing for the interviews, I decided that I would give each one of them one "unfair" question. These are those horrendous quetions that every interviewer feels like they have the right to ask, but it really gives them very little information.

Here they are, the 4 worst questions that you can be asked while in an interview:

1) "What is your worst weakness?"
2) "What is your biggest fear?"
3) "Do you consider yourself an overachiever?"
4) "What would you do if my company asked you to do something illegal?"

And the bonus one for the confident MK who is doing an interview in front of all of his classmates: "Are you going to try to save everyone in my company?"

Thanks for Making Us #5,567,545

I just wandered over to Alexa's Traffic Rankings, and on a whim, checked to see if Brookslanding.com was even noticed. Sure enough, Brookslanding.com is officially listed as the 5,567,545th busiest website on planet Earth.

We realize that this milestone could not have been reached without people just like you. There are 5,567,544 other websites out there, and you took the time out to view ours.

Thank you.

Tremor?

Friday at 10:30pm

Dan: "Are you shaking the bed?"

Ellen: "No."

Dan: "Well, it's not me."

Ellen: "Don't scare me like that, Dan..."

Dan: "No, I'm serious, I think it's a small earthquake!"

A very small earthquake, in fact. Not knowing what else to do, we stood in the doorway (that's what they always do in the movies), waited a few minutes, and called up some other people in our complex, and they said they didn't even feel it. But they suggested we check the news in the morning and see if it really was one. Sure enough, there was a minor one pretty far away. Here's the story.

I've been through plenty of hurricanes and a few close tornadoes, but this would have to be the first time I've felt an earthquake. At least the ground stays put when a hurricane passes over.

Typhoon Update

The typhoon wasn't as bad as predicted, but it was still the worst that had hit Manila in 11 years. Yes, I over-prepared the 7 kids, but we came out of it alright. In the end, we were only without power for 1.5 days. On day 12, Ellen and I handed the reins back over to two grateful (we think) parents, and enjoyed a good night's sleep in our own bed!

The entire family eating around a candle-lit dinner, the evening after the storm (and I realized just how bright the flash is on my camera...)

Uncle Dan figures out a way to keep the inevitable question from being asked every day.
